Director of Technology, Red Hook Initiative, Brooklyn, NY 03/14-7/17
- Created Red Hook WIFI, a free community wireless network in Red Hook, Brooklyn, one of the first public WIFI networks in the United States to be hosted by a nonprofit organization and managed by community members. In 2014, Red Hook WIFI was one of 11 winners of the NYC EDC RISE:NYC program, a global competition to to identify and deploy new and innovative technologies to prepare New York City small businesses for the impacts of future storms, sea level rise, and other effects of climate change. Red Hook WIFI was the only community nonprofit selected to share the $30 million investment program
- Established the Red Hook Digital Stewards, a young adult technology training and employment program. The Red Hook Digital Stewards install, maintain and promote Red Hook WIFI as they prepare for a career in technology. In a recent RFP issued by the NYC Mayor’s office, the Digital Stewardship model was referred to as an example of programs the city aims to fund
- As a member of NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio’s Broadband Taskforce, helped to craft New York City’s equitable strategies for digital inclusion, including the installation of free broadband service for NYCHA residents, restructuring franchise agreements of incumbent ISP’s, equitable distribution of LINK NYC kiosks, and significant investments in broadband resources for all New Yorkers
- Developed Digital Media Bootcamp, a media training program implemented in partnership with a local arts organization and public high school in which students create marketing videos for local businesses

- Created and developed a wide range of programs teaching 21st century skills to area youth and young adults including RHI Radio, an online youth radio program; 8th grade math/science after-school program; Community Change Workers Media Team; Social Justice Fellows, young adult community organizers; and Red Hook Local Leaders, an emergency preparedness and community organizing group for adults
